How MVC Central Works
The concept for MVC Central is simple... consolidate the information about MVC into one central location!
No matter what flavor of MVC, be it Java, PHP, Javascript, Ruby on Rails, ASP.NET MVC, etc, we want this to the be location you come to when you are looking for the latest information or tutorials or articles about MVC.
We can only be valuable with your help. This is a developer-driven community portal. It's developers like you that will help drive the MVC community. So spread the word about the site and help us grow.
Over time we will be adding more sections to the site such as News, Events, Tools, Tutorials, etc, to help you find what you are looking for. We will be in contact with the companies that build MVC frameworks, components and other tools and invite them to post information about their latest releases and other news.
Here's how you can get started.
Getting Started as a Visitor
For visitors, MVC Central is very easy to use and understand. You can get information from a variety of methods. Much of it depends on what you are looking for.
This briefly describes what the primary areas are:
- Kits - this section displays a list of author provided content in the form of a downloadable solutions. This could be anything from a complete application to a small reusable project. If the author is providing a downloadable solution, it will be found here.
- Showcase - this is where authors can showcase their talents, primarily by describing an MVC application that they built whether it be a desktop or web site application. These Showcase articles will also provide links to the application if it's a web site and other information about themselves.
- Videos - this section displays the many videos provided by authors that can range from a tutorial to an overview about a particlar MVC topic.
- Articles - this section displays articles written by developers on any MVC topic. These articles can also have links to more information on their personal blogs.
- Tutorials - (coming soon) this section will provide an array of tutorials on specific MVC related topics. They can be authored in conjunction with a video article.
In all of these sections, there will be links to Tags, Categories, the programming languages, frameworks and technologies used. You can quickly get a filtered list of items when you click a link in one of these lists.
You can also get a list of results by entering a value in the Search box at the top of the pages. This will search by any number of keywords, such as authors name, title, tags, framework, programming language, technology, etc.
So there are many ways you can find what you are looking for.
Getting Started for Authors
If you want to be an Author and contribute to the content on the site, it's easy, quick and Free to get started.
To get started:
- Sign up - simply register to become an author.
- My Account - go your My Account area by clicking on your username at the top of the page
- Select a section - select the section you want to create content for, such as Kits, Videos, Articles or just to showcase an application you've built.
This describes the different sections you can provide content for and what content belongs where.
- Kits - if you have an open-source application that you can provide to developers to download, this is the section you want. This can be any size application from a large complete web site application, to a small project that just contains a nice bit of reusable code. Just make sure you are not providing any information you don't want visitors to download or code that isn't yours or licensed third-party commercial components that you are essentially offering for free.
- Showcase - if you've built an MVC application of any type, you can describe it here. If it's a web site, you can include a Url to it. This is a place to show off some MVC application you've built. Please don't post non-MVC applications.
- Videos - this can be a video tutorial to present how to accomplish a task, or how to build and entire application. Just try to keep the videos as short as possible to prevent your viewers from leaving before it's finished. Again, the video should pertain to something MVC. Find special instructions for uploading your video here.
- Articles - you can post an article on a specific topic about MVC or anything general about MVC. Also, if you've written a few MVC related articles on your blog, there's no need to re-post those articles here. But what you'll want to do is, write a short article that talks about what your blog articles discusses, and then provide a link to your article. This helps provide an additional method of visitors finding information they need on this subject, and drawing more visitors to your site.
- Tutorials - (coming soon) this will be a section where you post a specific MVC-related tutorial. Your post is intended to teach the viewer how to accomplish a task or solve a problem. The tutorial should contain as much information about the subject as possible and be clear and concise in conveying its message. You can also link to a video you've posted here.
IMPORTANT NOTE!!!
All postings will be subject to moderator approval BEFORE going live! This means when you post an article, video or Kit, etc., and you've checked the "Publish" checkbox, your posting will not be visible to the public until an administrator has reviewed your posting. Be aware, for the time being this will only occur when a new posting is created, not each time its edited. If we find that some postings are not appropriate or look like they are intending to violate our security, then this process might change in the future.
We hope to provide a convenient and secure location for any and all information about MVC but we will still be considering security a big concern during our lifetime.
If you have other questions about how this site works or anything else about MVC Central, you can go to our Forums and post a question.
